Community Spotlight, featuring Michael Muyanja

Michael Muyanja

Michael Muyanja, African percussionist

“Music has the power to uplift the spirit and unite communities”. - Michael Muyanja

Musica Sierra is proud to be hosting our first virtual concert on Saturday, March 27th, at 7 pm with a 6:30 pm pre-concert talk with the artist and Executive Director Lindsay McIntosh.

This event will kick off our new Community Spotlight Series. This new series will feature artists from our local and neighboring counties and will highlight the diversity and creativity that lies within our very own backyard.  We aim to feature artists from all walks of life that have incorporated music-making into their daily lives, home, and families.

We are honored to feature percussionist Michael Muyanja as the first performer in our Community Spotlight Series.  Born and raised in Uganda, Michael and his wife Juliann moved to the U.S. in 2008.  They currently live in Sierra Brooks with their 4 (soon to be 5) children.  Michael first learned traditional African drumming from his beloved grandmother Dorothy when he was 12 years old.  He strongly believes music has the power to “uplift the spirit and unite communities”.
