“The Adventures of Freddy the Frog “
The Adventures of Freddy the Frog
The Adventures of Freddy the Frog is the seventh and final commission in Musica Sierra’s seven-year Musical Headwaters series—each aligned with NGSS themes for K–6th grade. This original work, created for second graders, brings together music, dance, storytelling, and ecology in a high-energy, weeklong residency led by renowned hip-hop artist and educator Brandon Greathouse.
Through the story of Freddy—a curious frog navigating self-discovery, expression, and connection—students explore the vital role of amphibians in healthy ecosystems. Just like frogs are the last to arrive when an environment thrives, and the first to disappear when it's under threat, Freddy’s journey mirrors the essential yet vulnerable place of the arts in our community. With beats you can feel in your bones, this program invites students to jump, groove, reflect, and unite through rhythm and movement.
Throughout the week, daily activities guide students in SEL-focused reflection, movement-based learning, and collaborative discussion, using their Musical Field Journals as a tool to deepen understanding. Brandon’s dynamic teaching style encourages students to express themselves, connect with their classmates, and build confidence as they learn about science and sound.
By the end of the week, students not only feel the beat—they become the beat.
The Adventures of Freddy the Frog invites them to leap boldly into music, movement, and meaning, celebrating the joy of learning and the strength of a healthy, creative community.
